The Putting up of the Christmas Tree in Peyia

Lynn - 28/11/2009

The Christmas lights in Peyia are always very pretty and welcomed by the locals. The tourists love them too, as they are visible the whole way up the main road from Coral Bay to Peyia and make the village come alive.

The main tree is on the corner, near Demetrias cafe and mosaic museum and is a tree made entirely of lights. Its huge, with many, many strands of lights gathering together to make the magnificent shape of a truly lovely Christmas tree.

Except its not. Every day for the past 2 weeks, one strand or another has been taken out and checked coz the electricity went on and the bulbs didnt - then two strands did - then none - then some......and so it continues. The western world over, men are struggling to check the bulbs on their christmas lights but the amount of bulbs and amount of lights are many -which makes the process very long and arduous.....

Unless you are observing it! Then its almost comical as each day, more of the workmen from the Municipality come to help and local expats stop to add their two penneth and still the lights don't go on....

Has the bill been paid we ask? Or did the electricity board forget to post it?........
