There will be a service of remembrance today at 11am in Peyia village square. Hosted by UK ex-pats, the service will reflect those being held all across the UK today and will, as it always is, be attended by many Cypriots whose thoughts will be with the loved ones they've lost - in conflicts which surrounded the 1974 troubles here - and with the 2000 plus men who are still unaccounted for from these troubles.
My personal thoughts are with my grandparents, who I pray are resting peaceful in the heavens and who will be looking to us all today and smiling thanks for all life gave them and all we try to do to live as they taught us to. I remember spending this day each year, with my Nanna, attending the service of Remembrance in Hebburn, watching her shed tears for her lost brothers and family members.
It seems so crazy that today, 2009, wars still rage and people will be killed, for reasons which just don't make sense at all....
