Blessing the Buns!

Lynn - 19/01/2009

The village of Peyia got a wonderful new bakery on Sunday 17th January 09. This large shop has been under construction for many months and there has been a lot of speculation about what the shop was for – but now we know!

This bakery, just up from Villa Lily-May, seems to have got larger and larger – and we’ve all wondered just how much food could possibly fill the place but been very grateful that our holiday villas close by eg Villa Lily-May, Ballimay and Carob Tree House , could benefit as the guests can walk to the shop for their fresh morning bread.

During the afternoon on Sunday, fresh bread and newly baked delicacies were placed on the shelves, then balloons were festooned everywhere, a bouncy castle arrived and Constantinides Bakery officially opened – complete with the village priest blessing the premises, the staff, the owners and the customers!

It was a great occasion.

Not that Peyia needed another bakery: we’ve now got 4 in a one km circle but the Cypriots and the locals all love to eat pastry and honey based sweet pastries – so we’ll all do our bit to keep the businesses flourishing!
