A lovely, gentle man , called Christakis, slipped away this morning after a long and energetic battle against cancer. Husband to Eleni and father to lovely daughters, Christakis, who is orginally from Limassol, has lived in Peyia for many years. He has been a good friend to us for a few years now - and our hearts go out to his family.
Like many of us who live this life, Christakis did nothing exceptional in terms of public acknowledgement - yet, like most people, he DID live an exceptional life: a good, kind, trustworthy and honourable family man, he lived his life gently and lovingly- and what more can be asked of a person.
Not old, Christakis has fought his illness for nearly 3 years and lost to it a few hours ago. We've been to sit with his family today in the stillness of the old village and experienced the strength of a familys love and togetherness at such a very sad time.
Tomorrow, the church bells in Peyia will sound out in tribute to this gentle man and we'll all be there to share in the grief of his family and close friends..........many, many people will gather to support his loved ones and to acknowledge a life led simply but a special life all the same. To everyone who knew him, his life mattered - and so it should and will continue to matter.....
With love and thoughts to his family and wishing him safely on his journey onwards.........
