This is the last weekend of the main holiday for Cypriots here on the island. Peyia and Coral Bay are littered with happy Cypriot holidaymakers, many of whom have returned here to spend August and whose families probably came from the area many years ago. The atmosphere in the village of Peyia is electric. Every shop and taverna is buzzing and every crowd seems good natured and friendly. Its a great month.

I had to laugh this morning, driving down the hill in Peyia from home to our office. Normally passing approx 12 older men who sit having coffee and discussing the universe, today I passed approx 50! They'd blocked the car park with their wooden chairs and games of backgammon - and were so very noisy: all talking together and gesticulating wildly -and its was only 8am!

Often these men fall asleep during their chats - I can only imagine how large the snore is going to be if they all snooze together! We'll think a jet engine is landing! Still, I suppose creating new policies and procedures is tiring work so they deserve their naps!

speaking of which, there is a sunbed with my name on it so I'm off!
