In Philippos Supermarket today, in Peyia, having just come from Villa Caliteri where the guests were settling happily, it struck me how colourful this lovely village is in terms of the nationalities who are living here.
Philippos is cypriot and his staff a mix of Phillipino, Sri Lankan, Italian and English. The shoppers are from the UK, Ireland, Russian and Germany - and that was just in today queue!
Everyone is happy and peacefully shopping along together, checking out each others baskets for inspiration on what to cook/buy in this hot climate - but local wine seems to feature well in everyones shop!
Tonight, Michaels Taverna was celebrating Monday with the normal carnivorous selection of food accompanied by local vegetables and an international gathering of holidaymakers. The family staying in Carob Tree House are from 3 different countries and Villa LIly May is hosting Russians for a further 6 months!
Its great: we all smile, sign , laugh and joke together - though no-one knows who is saying what! Who cares: we are in Cyprus in Peyia!
