Philippos Supermarket, Peyia

Lynn - 25/04/2009

Its great fun going supermarket shopping here in Peyia. At the bottom of the hill where we live, is Philippos supermarket, which is hidden in the middle of the old village houses and is a complete tardis!
The owner , not surprisingly, Philippos, is a real character. His English is limited but includes "anything more", when you are at the check out - and he regularly refers to me as a , "good man!" , when he sees me.
The ground floor is fruit, veg, pulses and tinned foods plus greetings cards and the upper floor, furnishings, DIY, electrical goods and just about anything you are looking for - including a one legged golden eagle to scare away the pigeons! (don't ask!)

Today, I've shopped as normal and chatted to a Frenchman, many Cypriots, some English, a Norwegian, argued lightly with a German who wanted my parking space but I wasnt finished......then came home having forgotten something so had to go back and do it all over again!
I HATE shopping but I LOVE this shop! Says a lot for the atmosphere and welcome - though the euro prices are creeping up a little! Must speak to Mr P about that!
