Peyia Cyprus

In a class of our own

Lynn - 21/01/2012

On Tuesdays and Fridays, in Peyia elementary school, I share Greek lessons with a colourful group of adults who are mainly Russian or Bulgarian; have studied ancient greek or greek for many years and most speak it beautifully.

There are 4 of us who are British, have lived here a collective 40 years and giggle our way through the very difficult grammar and vocabulary. Its good fun, very challenging and most rewarding.

The best thing is the teacher, a beautiful young mum called Paula, who drives us, encourages us and laughs when we say we are "married with many husbands who are gay" when we misuse the language and the translations are very funny!

And even better still, its all free: lessons provided by the government who want us all to share in the language of this beautiful island

I love Peyia! Sorry, Paula - mou aresi Pegeias! (phonetic not correct - but it never is!)
