Its a very interesting time here in the beautiful village of Peyia. With an election for new Mayor and Council, due on 18th December, the village is filled with opinions on who should win/why and what we need from them.
For the first time in many years, people whose faces we've known for a long time but who haven't chatted to us for one reason and another - namely that we are "incomers" - are suddenly chatty and want to know if we are "for" or "against" them or their nominated person....its fascinating!
Having the election is a great thing. Much has changed here in the village over the past 5 years during this mayoral "reign": we're even more multicultural and less Cypriot but need bridges built between all communities as we literally are all, in it together!
Whoever gets in as Mayor should be very proud. This is a wonderful place filled with great people (in the main) who have good hearts and vision for the village and its future. Tony and I are so very proud to live here and would love the chance to contribute even more to the success of the village. All the tourists who choose our company to come here (thank you), fall in love with Peyia as they should - we'd just like more people to shout louder about this special village and hope the "new broom" will make this happen.
Being "in charge" in hard: but just maybe the man with the vision, family history and hope for the future is about to be "crowned" Mayor and we can all look forward to supporting him in his cause. It isn't going to be easy for him but it will be worth it!
