Lights out in Peyia.....

Lynn - 27/03/2009

My Mum and stepfather, Jim, leave Peyia on Sunday to head back to life in the UK. They've spent at least 7 months a year here for the past 5 years and its very sad to see them return but ill health dictates that they need to...........and the fact they are returning to Northumberland, which is one of the most beautiful counties on earth!

Mum has enjoyed living in Peyia very much and has made a whole lot of friends, both Cypriot and expats, so I know she'll leave with a heavy heart and will leave a lot of people here feeling lost without her.

I'm trying to keep my chins up: Its my duty as the eldest daughter to keep everything steady and care for these two, now they've both had a few health problems and challenges. They joke that I'll be relieved to see the back of them but that couldn't be further from the truth: its been wonderful having them here and I cannot even begin to think of how it will be not having them around to call in on/steal a GnT from etc - but I know its the right thing for them.

My Mum is one of those ladies who draw people to her: she is totally barmy, drinks too much (is a family thing) and laughs a lot - people who aren't confident or who feel sad, gravitate towards her to feel better. Its a rare gift that she has and Peyia will be the poorer for her not being here......

I love Peyia but I love my Mum more: it feels like a light is going out here in the village.....but the lights and love will go with she and Jim to England, which is all we can ask x
