Its the 28th October and the second of two very important days in the Greek/Cypriot calendar. Today is Greek National Day when the Greeks celebrate their victory over the Axis troops in WW2
The WW2 experiences brought much change to Cyprus as well as other places in the world, introducing strangers from other countries to the quiet living, kind Cypriot/Greek people. Sharing experiences led to many locals deciding to move to other countries to see a new way of living for themselves. Many have now returned , having made their fortune elsewhere but come home to live the life they want on this lovely island.
In recent years, the migration has been into Cyprus not out of it, with (mainly) UK expats, coming to live here to enjoy the sun and seeking business opportunities which simply don't exist. Some have stayed and made a life; most have returned to their home and job security.
Today, Tony and I are reminding ourselves how lucky we are to live and work here - and how grateful we are to the lovely Cypriot people who have welcomed us into their midst.
Life changes - and its good to remember what led you to today. I'm a Geordie girl and always will be but a great part of my heart is here in Peyia and will always be.
