Early evening yesterday, I checked a lovely family out of the beautiful Villa Caliteri in Peyia and waved them off to the airport.
Before leaving , they told me they'd had their "best ever holiday" and had fallen in love with Peyia and Villa Caliteri - which was music to my ears!
Sadly, 1.5 hours later , they rang to say they were so very upset: their flight had been cancelled and the airline couldn't help them get on another flight for 5 days! I offered to help them by putting them up for the days till their next flight but, understandably, they needed to get home so chose to drive to Larnaca airport and take the risk of getting on another flight back to UK
Thankfully, their risk paid off and they got seats on the midnight flight - though they had to go to Gatwick and needed to be back in Scotland!
I was really sad for their trouble and a little annoyed with the airline for their unhelpfulness. Customer service is everything - especially when a family with a small child are stuck in a foreign airport and need to get home.
I hope airlines try harder to help us help people enjoy the village of Peyia and the island of Cyprus.
