Oh dear! The hills behind our home in Peyia seemed to be burning down last night. Since 4pm yesterday, we've watched a constant procession of aircraft and helicopters travelling backwards and forwards taking water to try to dampen down the flames.
Whilst the smell was lovely, the thought of what may be happening, wasn't. We were concerned that the fire was going to really take and wipe out the whole of the forest
Today, it seems to be under control but is still burning. Water is still being applied and the smoke is rising but all seems to be getting back to reasonably normal!
Its quite strange walking our dogs, watching helicopters flying overhead carrying large "buckets" of water! Its a great job the pilots do though! - but Tony thinks one of them seemed to have great humour and was trying to soak us as he passed!
