Itss a beautiful September morning here in Peyia. The air is clear, the skies are just brightening through light cloud and the sun is taking its time before blasting us all with its intense heat......
Jake, Alfie and I have sat on the Thinking Step and had a cup of tea, reflecting on the past few days here, which have been very difficult. One of the worst things about our work, is often disrespectful and unreasonable people and their attitudes - and we've had two examples this week. One longterm tenant has simply run away in the night, taking belongings from the owner and leaving behind a trail which the police can, luckily, find and sort out.
Another has simply been herself, paid her bills on time and left her contract , with all financial things in place. The owners of the house she rented now want to hold her (and us) responsible for absolutely everything they don't like about renting. Without doubt, there are a few things the ex tenant needs to sort and pay for (which she's agreed) but equally, there is a lot which is purely down to wear and tear and age of the villa.
My grandfather always told me to trust and see the best in people until proved different: this week, I've seen some of the worst of pettiness and sheer bias.
The week will pass but my faith in those who seem like good people, has been totally shaken and I'm considering whether its all worth it...
