Yesterday, driving down the hill through the tiny village streets near our home, I had to come to a sudden stop to allow a huge chameleon to cross the road in front of the car.

I've only every seen one other of these funny creatures but this one was massive: approx one foot long, bright green from the grass he'd just left - and not in a hurry to get anywhere! His direction was the bin, which was overflowing with edible vegetable cuttings but he was enjoying the journey and gently changing colour as he strolled across the road.

Praying that another car didn't come up behind me and get impatient, I sat back and watched Chammy stroll along.

I'd have loved to get out of the car and gone to have a closer look but his legs were so big, I think he'd have shot off and I'd have ruined his day - but not as much as if I'd not seen him and run him over!!
