Brave heart or stupid brain?

I've just done what I thought was the right thing and lifted a dead cat, which had been run over, off the road on our hill. It was there this morning when I got up and I've had to drive past the poor thing twice, with no-one coming to claim or move it - so I did. As gently and lovingly as I could, so that it could rest in peace and not be hurt anymore.
Sadly, some tourists were watching me from nearby villas and I'm sure they thought I'd hit it with my car, so now I feel terrible - and very sick.
Poor little beast. I hope its running with the angels now and out of pain
