Alex and Nic, who live in Cheshire (posh pair) but are originally from Cyprus and have a villa in Peyia, are here in the village for a holiday and many, many visits to local family. They are wonderful: Alex is very "Greek" and strong and a great fun lady. Nic is quiet, mischievous and sweet - and they both love to hear the village stories.
We were talking about how many English people now live in Peyia and how the Cypriots feel about them , then were laughing about habits we all have which will never change, wherever we live eg Cypriots need to talk and know your history (also a Geordie trait); Cypriots need you to eat, to know you are happy (a great trait); English are polite in queues (not so Cypriot).... and so on.
I was saying how much I love Peyia and like everything "cypriot" when Alex noted I was drinking a cup of English tea, not Cyprus coffee..... "Well", I said, "Some things are sacred - and our English teabags are one of them!"
Alex is on a mission to convert me to local coffee. I didn't get the chance to tell her I actually like it - she was too busy being Greek and talking over me!
