Go to work on a smile!

Lynn - 03/02/2009

I think this may age me but I remember a TV advert which was , basically, "go to work on an egg".....

Today, as I left home to drive the HUGE 3 minute commute to our office in Peyia, just around the corner from Carob Tree House, I realised again how lucky I am to live here.

The first smile I get every morning as I leave the house, is the wife of Andreas , the goatherd, who always waves and smiles as she climbs the hill. As I get closer to the village, one of the older ladies, who walks to her friends house for a cuppa, stops and waves as she gets her breath (though this may be wind!); entering the village proper, the older men are sat at the Kafenes and, being male and interested in a blond driving a sports car, (and ignoring the fact that both the car and the driver are past it!), these men wave and smile - normally toothless smiles though Savvas has been having dental work since his grandson graduated from dental college!

Further down the hill and Andreas, our barber at night who is the refuse collector during the day, waves merrily as he goes about the day - then Spiros, the community policeman, grins at me from under his hat, trying to look "cool" in a manly way at the same time.

Office at last and there is our landlady, laden with fruit for us and inviting me to eat cake...............aaaaah. And its only 8.30 am

Here's to another great day in Peyia!
