Peyia Cyprus

Birthday wishes

Lynn - 11/06/2010

Beth, our beautiful Philippino friend , was 40 yesterday. My heart went out to her: one of a growing number of mums who leave their families to come to Cyprus to earn a living to help to pay for their childrens education, Beth hasn't been home for around 8 years - and her children are growing quickly. One has married, one qualified as a nurse and one is studying. Beth should be very proud of what she is achieving to help them - but what a hard and lonely life for her away from them.
Yesterday wasn't a day for sadness though: Beth was dressed up, surrounded by flowers, friends and song - and she still cooked for us all last night (her curries are fantastic!).

Looking at her huge, warm smile, I was reminded how very lucky we are in the western world, to have our families around us and not have to leave our children to help feed and educate them. We really don't realise how lucky we are.

Daily life in Peyia, especially for the holidaymakers, wouldn't be as easy, pleasant or happy if it wasnt' for Beth and girls like her whose good natures are ever present - and who always ensure everything is ready for us.

Happy Birthday Beth: you deserve the best life can bring and I pray you find it one day - and that your children realise what a wonderful person their mum really is .x
