The month of flowers

Lynn - 09/05/2010

I cannot believe that I've lived here in Peyia for almost 8 years and didn't know that May is the month of flowers. And I love flowers!

I found out when Vanessa, my beautiful friend and yoga guru, brought a Statis wreath , in the prettiest shade of purple and filled with butterfly like feathers, to our home as a present. Maria, one of the best florists in Peyia, has explained to Vanessa that, in May, the people of Peyia place these floral tributes on their front doors to "bring in the flowers of May". Its a lovely idea.

Our garden, fashioned out of the rock the hill is made of, is filled with flowers. The "Nixon Rose", a bush a friend of ours gave to us, is in full bloom and living both in the garden and in the lounge. The Hebes are out; a multitude of daisies and lipstick bushes- its really pretty. I could sit for hours on the Thinking Step just watching the lizards race in and out of the shrubs and enjoying the colours of the flowers on this lovely island.

May is in full bloom - and anyone arriving here in time to see it, will be very, very lucky.
