Tony, Sue , Ray and I have joined the newly formed, Municipality run, school for expats to learn to speak Cypriot. Held every Tuesday evening , the location is the elementary school, just down the hill from Caliteri View.
The classroom is a working one- for under 7s. Which means we sit on tiny chairs at tiny desks while the lovely teacher tries to get our (tiny) minds to take in the very attractive but totally foreign look of the alphabet which makes up the Cypriot language!
With letters that begin with a “gh” but are pronounced “th”, its not going to be easy. “N” is pronounced “ee” and it gets worse from there…
Tomorrow we’ve got to write on the blackboard in front of each other, so I’m going to practise tonight – maybe……………
